Smart and Spacious All-New Edge; Ford’s Most Advanced SUV
The all-new Edge has been designed from the ground up to be visually athletic and to meet high expectations for quality in Europe and around the world.
The Edge delivers advanced new technologies as the third chapter in Ford’s SUV expansion plan for Europe – joining the new Kuga medium-sized SUV and the all-new EcoSport small SUV.
All-new Edge features a charismatic exterior design, with the prominent chrome grille, the thin and chiselled front LED headlamps, and the three-dimensional blade shape rear LED tail lamps. The pronounced wheel openings house 20-inch alloy wheels.
A sophisticated body structure and suspension system absorbs and masks road imperfections and noise without compromising handling, helping to deliver a driving experience that fully meets the expectations of European consumers.
Integral-link, independent rear suspension ensures a dynamic and engaging ride. High-strength steels contribute to a solid body structure that helps deliver more dynamic and responsive handling. Interior refinement also has been optimised through the use of acoustic glass, and the Edge utilises tyres that have been specially selected for reduced road noise.
Adaptive Steering continually changes the steering ratio with vehicle speed, optimising the steering response in all conditions. At lower speeds, such as when pulling into a parking space or manoeuvring in tight quarters, the new system makes the vehicle more agile and easier to turn. At highway speeds, it enables Edge to react more smoothly and precisely to driver input.
Technology you can control with your voice
Ford SYNC 2 lets you stay connected and control your phone, music, navigation system and climate control with intuitive voice commands or the 8” colour touchscreen.
You can even call up a list of local restaurants just by saying “I’m hungry”, or access the Michelin Guide to help you choose and book.
Wi-Fi connectivity is available via hotspots, with a USB modem. And Ford Emergency Assistance can automatically help call the Emergency Services in the event of an accident.
Confidence in changeable conditions
An intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system can determine how much grip, cornering balance and responsiveness is required in wet, dry or icy conditions and on varying terrain. The technology is intelligent, so it’s able to send drive to the front or rear axle depending on requirements. And by providing ‘torque on demand’, the system delivers exceptional handling and improved efficiency for safe, effortless driving.
Sees what’s coming, from either side
A Front Wide-View Camera on the front of the All-New Edge, relays a split-screen image to your car’s Multi-Function Display so you can see vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians coming from either side. This optional new technology is invaluable if you’re edging out of a narrow parking space, or on to a busy road where your view is obstructed.
Stress-free parking and pulling out
Using a combination of different technologies, Active Park Assist does more than automatically steer you into parallel parking spots. With Park Out Assist, it helps you pull out of them, too. The Perpendicular Parking system can sense if there’s space for your car to fit, then turns your steering wheel automatically. Side Parking Aid also warns you if there are any lateral obstructions.
Keeping you warm, and cool
Choose leather seats (optional on the Sport and Titanium models) and both front driver and passenger seats are heated or cooled to maximise your comfort. Similarly, rear passengers can also enjoy heated seats. And if you’re the driver, freezing cold days are made far more tolerable by a heated steering wheel.
With this system, you’ll be able to hear yourself think
Ford’s Active Noise Cancellation system employs three microphones in the cabin and generates opposing sound waves directed through the audio system that enhance the overall engine sound and cabin ambiance.
A system that can help protect you and those around you
Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection detects people (and large objects) in the road ahead, or who could cross the vehicle’s path, and warns you of their presence. If you don’t respond, the system automatically applies the brakes.
This innovative new technology is designed to reduce the severity of accidents and in some cases, eliminate frontal collision, functioning at speeds of up to 30 mph.
Mirrors that see what you can’t
A Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) can help you change lanes more safely, thanks to RADAR sensors that scan the blind spots on either side of your vehicle. If they detect a vehicle you can’t see, an orange light, displayed in the corresponding side door mirror, illuminates to warn you.
A new technology, Cross Traffic Alert detects approaching vehicles when you’re reversing out of a space. If something’s approaching, it will sound a warning and illuminate a light in the corresponding wing mirror.
Exceptional protection for your rear passengers
The two rear outer seats can be specified with a safety feature unique to Ford: a Rear Inflatable Seatbelt. In the event of an impact, the belts inflate and spread the crash forces over a five times larger area of the body than conventional seat belts.
By reducing pressure on the chest and better controlling head and neck movement, this innovative technology can help reduce the likelihood of injury.
