Every facet of the new Ford Kuga’s design has been questioned, creating a stunning vehicle that rejects all the ‘rules’ of how a crossover should look, and how it should perform on-road. At the same time, its intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) system allows you to escape off-road, in the full knowledge you’ll be able to handle the outcome – effortlessly.
The bold, contemporary exterior of the new Ford Kuga is matched by an interior that’s sophisticated, spacious and available with every technical innovation you could need.

The Kuga has at its heart a powertrain with proven credentials that combine impressive power with optimum fuel-economy – plus a class-leading all-wheel drive (AWD) CO2 emission figure of 159 g/km.
For all its tough and rugged performance when off-roading, this is a vehicle that is completely at home cruising around urban cityscapes. The wealth of innovative driving technology under the Kuga’s rigid shell, means that it has the roadholding and manoeuvrability of a smaller town car, combined with the appetite for motorway driving of a large saloon.Stationary, Kuga looks muscular and athletic – it doesn’t disappoint when it’s on the move, either. The engine delivers a rewardingly responsive performance and impressive fuel economy. The 2.0-litre TDCi (136 PS) Duratorq 100 kW engine with 6-speed manual transmission provides high levels of torque at low revs (320 Nm at 2,000 rpm) to overcome any off-road conditions, plus 340 Nm in short bursts to ensure easier and safer overtaking manoeuvres on the road – another example of Ford ECOnetic Technology. The 2.5-litre Duratec petrol engine develops 200 PS (available from 2009) and produces even more torque.
Unlike most four-wheel drive vehicles, the Kuga’s intelligent AWD system continuously analyses driving conditions and automatically decides how much power each wheel needs to suit the road or overcome the terrain. The result is class leading on-road performance and handling, as well as excellent off-road capability. Our engineers have also tailored every aspect of the Kuga’s ride to give outstanding handling, braking and steering performance.Exterior
Every external element of the Kuga has been carefully considered and then designed to produce a bold, imaginative shape that sets it head and shoulders above other crossover vehicles.
The Kuga conveys a sense of energy in motion through Ford kinetic Design. Distinctive headlights, a contoured bonnet and large trapezoid grille create a powerful, iconic profile that sets it apart. The pronounced wheel arches, stylish air vents and muscular shoulder line provides an energetic stance. The sporty off-road look continues with the Kuga’s front and rear bumpers, plus lower skid plates, a choice of alloy wheels from 17” to 19”, and standard twin exhausts.
Interior
The interior of the Kuga has been as meticulously thought through and designed as the exterior. You will find a wealth of features in the contemporary cabin to make your journey truly pleasurable. A quick glance around the interior will be enough to convince you of the high-quality finish as well as the high levels of detailing, such as the stylish aluminium-look flourishes on the door handles.
When it comes to driving, comfort and style is key. You’ll have a clear view of the terrain from your elevated driving position. Whatever the conditions outside, you and your front passenger will be perfectly comfortable as the snug, sculpted sports front seats are heated, too. In keeping with a vehicle that takes all the hard work out of driving, you can also add electrically adjustable seats to the Kuga.
A variety of colours and elegant fabrics are available, including full Napoli leather in Ebony. The soft-touch materials beautifully complement the design flourishes and features inside the cabin. Every stitch, every cut of cloth and leather in the Kuga has been as meticulously crafted.
Whether you are into extreme sports or gentle family rambling, the Kuga will take everything you need in its stride. The second row of seating has a 60:40 split and folds flat, while under-seat storage creates even more space. There is also further stowage available under the floor of the luggage compartment area. In two-seat mode, there’s a generous 1,355 litres of loadspace to fill, while in five-seat mode the enclosed luggage compartment can hold up to 360 litres in volume. With no sill to negotiate, it’s easy to load and unload heavy items, and because the floor is flat through to the rear tailgate, there is nothing to snag on when pulling or pushing things across the compartment.
Class-leading CO2 emissions in the all-wheel drive (AWD) crossover category
The Kuga’s intelligent AWD system helps return remarkable fuel economy figures of 44.1mpg. Not to mention the class-leading CO2 emission figure of 169 g/km in its AWD crossover category and an outstanding 159g/km from the 2WD version.
Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
Tested in the harsh condition of a Swedish winter, the Kuga’s intelligent All-Wheel Drive system uses proven Haldex 3 technology to react instantly to a change in road conditions. Traction is maintained by automatically applying power to the wheels that need it most, ensuring you stay in control whatever the road throws at you.
Electric Hydraulic Power-Assisted Steering (EHPAS)
EHPAS helps the Kuga deliver responsive handling. This speed-sensitive system ensures that the steering becomes lighter at lower speeds for easier manoeuvrability. At higher speeds, there is less power assistance, so you can better ‘feel’ the road, particularly when you are negotiating a twisting road.
Bi-Xenon headlights
These highly efficient headlights deliver twice the intensity and project a far longer light beam than conventional halogen headlights, but use only two thirds of the energy – a bright idea in every respect.
FordPower Starter Button
Starting the Kuga is simple. So long as you have your key in your car with you, security-encrypted sensors automatically ready the engine when they detect your unique key code. Simply engage the clutch and push the FordPower Starter Button to start your car. Being security-encrypted, means no one else can drive off in your vehicle – even in the unlikely event that they manage to get through the alarm and locks.
Navigation
Two navigation systems are available with the Kuga: a Touchscreen Navigation system with 7'' full-colour display and an enhanced Touchscreen Navigation PLUS system, which also includes a rear view camera.
Sony DAB audio system
Standard on the Kuga, you get a DAB digital radio, with its wide choice of radio stations. There’s also MP3 playback capability, external AUX jack and an optional USB port for plugging in your MP3 player. If you like, you can upgrade to a high-performance Sony audio system with a 6-disc in-dash CD autochanger.
Bluetooth®* with Voice Control
Using Bluetooth®* with Voice Control technology, you can safely make and receive calls from your mobile phone, change the radio station or CD track, control the DVD navigation system, and adjust the temperature or fan settings – just by using voice commands. A USB/audio socket means you can plug in and play your own personal MP3 device, or USB stick. plug in your MP3 player. You can then listen to your favourite tracks through the car audio system.
Solar reflect windscreen
This windscreen has been specially designed so that it blocks more of the sun’s heat than standard glass. This means the interior cools more efficiently on sunny days, which provides a more comfortable driving environment for you.
As the Kuga has such incredible capabilities, we have equipped it with a comprehensive range of safety features to ensure driver and passengers’ safety whether travelling on or off-road.
Active safety features
The Kuga has an advanced braking system to provide total reassurance, whatever conditions you may face. The Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) constantly monitors feedback from each wheel and applies a braking pulse should there be any momentary loss of grip. Meanwhile, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) guarantees that extra braking pressure is instantly available in case of emergencies. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) are also fitted as standard, and these combine to ensure that your braking is more controlled, no matter what’s around the next corner.
Traction Control System (TCS)
Our advanced traction control system is there to ensure maximum contact between each individual tyre and the road when accelerating or decelerating. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the power to individual wheels ensuring maximum grip is achieved with minimum effort on your part.
Rain-sensing wipers
Rain-sensing wipers offer six levels of speed. They spring into action automatically at the first drop of rain and increase in speed to deal with whatever the weather can come up with. Aside from the added convenience, it’s one less thing to have to think about.
Deflation Detection System
We believe that potential problems should be tackled before they become real problems. That’s why Tyre Deflation Detection System technology is available across the Kuga range, with sensors that constantly monitor speed and driving conditions on the move. A warning light in the instrument panel alerts the driver to any potential problem.
5-star Euro NCAP rating
The Kuga has the ability to tackle any terrain or conditions. More importantly, it has the technology and features to do so more safely than any other vehicle in its class. Euro NCAP put the Kuga through exhaustive testing before awarding it a class-leading combination of five stars out of five for occupant safety, with the Kuga achieving a 100% result in the Euro NCAP Side Impact Test. Plaudits were also given by the Euro NCAP panel for the Kuga’s rigid passenger cell. Meanwhile, Euro NCAP awarded the Kuga an impressive four stars out of four for child safety. Pedestrian safety scored highly too, with the Kuga scoring three stars.
Intelligent Protection System (IPS)
IPS in the Kuga features a comprehensive array of innovative technology that helps enhance driver and passenger protection. A series of sensors are built-in to deploy the appropriate safety systems, such as all-round airbags, in milliseconds.
Passive safety features
The Kuga has a rigid safety cage that is built to reduce the effects of impact in case of collision. There are also full-size front and side airbags for the front passenger and driver, plus side curtain airbags both in the front and rear of the vehicle. To minimise injury to drivers, we have designed our Pedal Intrusion Prevention System and a load-limiting steering column so it collapses away on impact.
ISOFIX child seat attachments
The safety, comfort and protection of your children is paramount. ISOFIX mounting brackets for child seat attachments can be fitted free on the two outer rear seats of the Kuga, but you’ll need to specify them when ordering your vehicle.
