Claire has recently been on a trip to Doha, which was a welcome break from the cold and damp of Leeds, the purpose of the trip was to bond with the other Podium level swimmers and improve on any areas of weakness, it was also deemed an ideal lead up to the first European trials in Manchester which start 5th March in Manchester.

Whilst in Doha and during the downtime Claire took a trip on a Dhow, which she says was great fun. The team also found the time to go to a souk for a bit of retail therapy. Claire, by chance met the golfer Ian Poulter in their hotel lobby and after a long chat with him, he offered her three tickets to the next day’s play at the Qatar Masters, needless to say she and few of the squad members took that up and had a great afternoon. The hotel was really good, food was excellent as were the facilities, it was the same hotel used by the Commonwealth games squad.

The training on the camp was very intensive, two sessions most days and then plenty of rest and lots of early nights.

Claire is currently tapering for the European trials, which means reducing drastically the volume of training, the strange side effect is that it makes her feel really tired. She will be competing in :

100 free- 8th of March

100 fly- 9th of March

200 IM- 10th of March

100 breast- 11th of March

Claire will be focusing on qualifying in her two best events 200 IM and 100m breast.

She has also been asked to go to a training camp In Berlin in May, which is a forerunner to the European championships held there from 3rd July-9th of July.
