The Ford S-MAX is built for exciting escapes to the great outdoors. Since every adventure is more fun when you share it, this elegant Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) has plenty of space for people and their things. A five or seven-seater configuration, up to three ISOFIX points for child seats, and a flexible seating system means accommodation for everyone and everything that goes with them — from suitcases to surf boards.
S-MAX now offers a new engine option, too: a 2.5-litre petrol hybrid engine. Alongside reduced CO2 emissions, it delivers exceptional power, torque and towing capability. There’s no need for plug-in charging and the battery is hidden under the floor, so there is no compromise on loadspace at all. In fact, you’ll find every inch of this car is designed for those with an adventurous spirit.

The S-MAX offers style, driving pleasure and advanced features without sacrificing space, flexibility and fuel efficiency.
The Ford design team evolved the fresh and distinctive exterior styling of the original S‑MAX for an even more dynamic and upscale impression.
The sleeker styling makes economical use of graphic design features to avoid “visual noise”. The front pillar is moved further back to create a longer, sculpted bonnet for a more premium appearance. A raised chrome trapezoidal grille and slim headlamp design give a technical and cutting-edge look.
The charismatic S-MAX silhouette and distinctive window-line is now even more desirable, complemented by signature LED Day Time Running Lights and technically styled rear LED taillights that add visual width. They are connected by a signature satin chrome strip. A rear diffuser separates integrated exhaust pipes for a modern, sporty feel.
Inside, a mature, sophisticated and dynamic feel includes a sculpted centre console that flows from the upper instrument panel; aluminium accent above the glovebox; and stadium style seating design for second and third row seating space. The open and airy interior benefits from a full-length panoramic glass roof and smart design seats with thinner seat backs to provide more legroom.
Soft-touch materials and accent stitching are used throughout the S-MAX interior. Materials can resist the wear and tear delivered by active families through anti-stain coatings and durability testing includingsoil and coffee application.

Make light work of heavy traffic
Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go lets you set both your cruising speed, and distance from the vehicle in front. If it detects traffic is slowing, the system will maintain your pre-set distance if conditions don’t allow for your preferred cruising speed. It can even bring you to a complete stop in heavy traffic. Once the road in front is clear, the system automatically accelerates back up to your chosen speed – making it ideal for negotiating the crowded stop-start driving of urban environments.
Keeping you inside the speed limit
Intelligent Speed Assist works with Traffic Sign Recognition to enhance your speed control, enabling you to concentrate on the road. When activated, the system can identify the local speed limit and then automatically adjust your maximum speed accordingly.
Power-assisted steering that responds to every situation
Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) automatically adjusts to your speed and the conditions. At low speeds, the system makes wheel turns feel lighter and easier, improving manoeuvrability. At high speeds, when you need greater control, it firms up the steering. Now with drift control, EPAS also takes into account crosswinds and other driving conditions, while active nibble control reduces any unwanted vibration in the steering wheel.

Extra power for emergency braking
Emergency Brake Assist helps your vehicle achieve maximum braking effectiveness in an emergency situation. It’s controlled automatically via the Electronic Stability Control system, which senses how much pressure you’ve applied to the brake yourself and automatically increases it, if necessary.
Stay in control whatever the conditions
Electronic Stability Control constantly monitors your vehicle’s progress. It senses when a vehicle is losing grip and automatically applies a braking pulse to individual wheels, stabilising it. Using advanced sensors from the anti-lock braking and Traction Control System it monitors the behaviour of the vehicle.
Helping to keep children safe
The S-MAX is designed to help keep young children safe and secure on every journey. It comes with rear ISOFIX child seat attachment points, so you can easily fit two child seats.
Continuous protection against rolling over
Ford’s unique roll-rate sensor helps the Roll Stability Control system to keep the tyres grounded, specifically under conditions where there’s a high centre of gravity and when driving through off-camber turns.
Coordinated safety systems activate in a split-second
The S-MAX is equipped with an advanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS), which coordinates a series of safety systems to offer maximum protection for you and your passengers.
Quicker, shorter emergency stops
When it senses an emergency stopping situation, Electronic Stability Control pre-charges the braking system, closing any air gap between brake pads and discs. Known as electronic brake prefill, this technology helps reduce the vehicle’s braking distance.

A Thatcham Category 1 alarm is a sophisticated system that automatically arms itself when you double-lock the vehicle and will sound a powerful alarm if triggered by forced entry, the vehicle being lifted, or if the motion sensors pick up any movement inside. The technology is also designed to help prevent unwanted towing of the vehicle. It's possible to arm the system in different ways, which means you can choose to monitor the doors, bonnet and boot.
