The Puma, Kuga and Explorer are three very different cars. Getting the right one depends on how you actually use your car day-to-day.
The Puma looks compact from the outside. It sits lower than the Kuga, narrower than the Explorer, and first impressions suggest it's a small car. It isn't.
Boot space is one of the Puma's party tricks. The Kuga has been quietly getting on with the job for years, and the current generation is the best it's ever been. It sits in the middle of this trio in size.
Where it earns its reputation is versatility. The boot is genuinely big enough for a properly loaded supermarket run and a set of golf clubs at the same time. The rear seats have enough legroom that adults can comfortably sit in the back. The interior is a lovely place to be, with a comfortable seating position and clear view, plus the latest in technology and safety features.
For Herefordshire families, the plug-in hybrid version is worth serious consideration. If your daily driving is mostly within Hereford itself or shorter runs to Leominster, Ledbury or Ross, a Kuga PHEV can cover most of those trips on electric power alone, and revert to petrol when you need the range for longer journeys. It's the perfect middle ground and a great introduction to EV driving.
The Kuga suits you if you're buying for the family and need it to do everything. You're interested in electrification but not ready to go fully electric.

It's a larger SUV, with a spacious interior. The rear seats are comfortable for adults on a run to Birmingham or beyond, and the boot swallows luggage. There's a panoramic roof option that makes the cabin feel light and airy.
The Explorer's real-world range sits comfortably for most daily and weekly driving patterns, but it does ask you to think differently about longer trips, planning charges rather than assuming a petrol station will appear when you need one as it would in a petrol or diesel vehicle. With the Ford Power Promise, you also have the option of having a Home Charger fitted, meaning you can charge your Explorer at home, so it's always ready to go.
The Explorer suits you if you're committed to going electric and want to do it properly. Most of your driving is predictable in distance.
