NEW FORD EDGE

The new Ford Edge is the company’s most technologically advanced SUV ever, offering a comprehensive range of camera- and sensor-based driver assistance technologies designed to make journeys more comfortable and less stressful, and to help drivers avoid or mitigate the effects of collisions -- including the Post Collision Braking, Evasive Steering Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centring Assist.

Driving Experience

Your personal driving assistant

Ford Co-Pilot360 is a collection of advanced driver assist technologies that work together to make your driving experience more comfortable and more enjoyable than ever. For example, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go automatically adjusts your cruise control speed based on the vehicle ahead. If traffic slows to a standstill, the engine will automatically stop and restart when the road clears. The system can even recognise speed signs and adjust your cruise control speed accordingly. Lane Centering technology can also provide steering assistance by following road markings to help keep you positioned in the middle of your lane.

Effortless control

Adaptive Steering enables responsive steering at all times and in all conditions. At lower speeds, such as manoeuvring in a car park, less steering input is required. Whilst at higher speeds, steering becomes more agile and precise. And the addition of a Sport Mode reduces the steering effort required on bends, making driving on sweeping and curving roads more rewarding.

Ford Edge

A system that helps to avoid collisions

Evasive Steering Assist is designed to detect vehicles, pedestrians or other objects in the road ahead. If it detects a potential collision it makes the steering more responsive to help you avoid the obstacle.

Cruise control that automatically stops and restarts your Edge

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go technology lets you choose the speed you want the system to maintain. If the built-in RADAR sensor detects a vehicle ahead, it will slow your vehicle to maintain a pre-set distance, and can even bring the vehicle to a complete stop in heavy traffic. Once the road in front is clear, the system will accelerate back up to your chosen speed.

Cruise control

Technology that sees what you can’t see

The Blind Spot Information System uses RADAR sensors to see vehicles that may be hidden in your blind spot. They’re situated on either side of your Edge and alert you with an orange light, clearly displayed in the side door mirror.

Spots the vehicles you might miss

Cross Traffic Alert is part of the Blind Spot Information System. When you’re reversing out of a space and have limited visibility of the traffic situation, Cross Traffic Alert can detect oncoming vehicles, sound a warning and even activate braking if you don’t react in time. The technology illuminates a light in the wing mirror too (left or right depending on the direction of oncoming traffic).

Confidence in changeable conditions

The updated Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system can determine how much grip, cornering balance and responsiveness is required in wet, dry or icy conditions and on varying terrain. The technology only runs in front-wheel-drive when four-wheel-drive isn’t required, and then switches back depending on requirements. This delivers exceptional handling and greatly improved efficiency.

An advanced system to help you stay in your lane

The Lane Keeping System uses a forward-looking camera to detect if you’re unintentionally drifting out of lane. Lane Keeping Aid provides gentle steering torque assistance to help guide you back into your lane. If your wheel touches the line or edge of the road, Lane Keeping Alert vibrates the steering wheel and displays a visual warning. The technology automatically deactivates at speeds below 43 mph, or can be turned off manually.

Headlights that help you see around bends

Adaptive Lighting with Ford Dynamic LED headlights and daytime running lights deliver a precise and intensely bright light pattern that automatically adjusts to suit different road and driving conditions. In addition, glare-free high beam adjusts itself automatically to avoid dazzling other drivers, and the new system can even read the curve of the road to illuminate corners and crossings before you enter them.

Sees what’s coming from either side

A tiny panoramic camera on the front of the vehicle relays a split-screen image to your Edge’s multi-function display so you can see vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians coming from either side. This front wide-view camera is invaluable if you’re edging out of a narrow parking space, or in a busy road where your view is obstructed.

Stress-free parking

Active Park Assist can steer you into parallel parking spaces just 20% longer than your vehicle. Simply push a button and the sensors of this innovative system locate a suitable space as you drive past. Then it automatically steers you in, while all you do is operate the accelerator, gears and brake, as directed by the on-screen instructions.

Sees the road signs you might miss

Whether the signs are at the side of the road or above it, permanent or temporary, Traffic Sign Recognition can identify them. Icons for speed limits and no-overtaking signs are displayed on the instrument cluster, alerting you to changing restrictions.

Helping to keep you inside the speed limit

Intelligent Speed Assist is designed to aid your speed control, enabling you to concentrate on the road. First, a front-facing camera automatically detects the current speed limit. If activated, the system adjusts your maximum speed setting to that limit*.

Sensors that take the stress out of parking

Parking distance sensors at the front and rear help you judge the distance between your vehicle and obstacles around you. When the sensors detect an object, they activate an audible warning that intensifies the closer you get to it.

Helping you see, without dazzling others

A useful night-driving aid, auto high beam temporarily dips your headlights when it detects oncoming traffic or a vehicle ahead, stopping you dazzling other drivers. It then automatically reverts back to high beam, giving you maximum visibility.

Easier reversing

Bollards, bicycles, low walls… The rear-view camera shows what’s behind you on a screen built into the centre console. As well as revealing objects you might miss, the system displays virtual lines to help you park into the smallest of spaces. The camera activates automatically when you select reverse gear.

Extra control during hill starts

Hill Start Assist temporarily stops you rolling backwards or forwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2-3 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces.

Driver Alert tells you when you’re getting tired

Driver Alert constantly monitors your driving behaviour and is designed to detect any changes that could be caused by fatigue. If the system identifies you’re becoming less vigilant, a warning icon appears in the display, suggesting you take a break. If your driving alertness further declines, the message is repeated and combined with a chime.

Maximum cornering control

Torque Vectoring Control reacts to the road surface 100 times per second. (That’s 33 times faster than the blink of an eye.) Using this information, it balances the amount of power delivered to each of the two front wheels. This maximises grip and sharpens handling around corners and over undulations in the road.

Ford SYNC Emergency Assistance

In the event of an accident, where the airbag is deployed or the fuel-pump deactivated, Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance can use a Bluetooth-paired and connected mobile phone to help you make a direct call to the Emergency Services. You can choose to stop the call, or talk to those services if you need to. The system is designed to supply vital information, such as your GPS coordinates, even if you are unable to.

Performance and Efficiency

The New Edge is a fusion of clever design and scrupulous attention to detail. New engines, including the precision-engineered 4-cylinder, 2.0L Ford EcoBlue diesel engine is paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission, with a Rotary Gear Shift Dial. The result: a powerful and efficient SUV with driving dynamics that give you exceptional confidence and command of the road.

A new standard for diesel engines

The new 4-cylinder, 2.0L Ford EcoBlue diesel engine is a highly advanced, turbo-charged engine that delivers measurably improved efficiency, performance and refinement. The new engine can improve fuel efficiency, is more responsive and is also quieter than ever before.

A sophisticated Rotary Gear Shift Dial

The New Edge comes with a new a new Rotary Gear Shift Dial as standard. The new dial replaces the traditional gear level. This new advanced automatic transmission delivers improved acceleration and super-smooth gear changes. It also gives the interior a much cleaner design and increases space in the cabin. Usefully, when you park your SUV the shifter will automatically set into the parking mode.

Change gears fast, with your fingertips

This racing-inspired technology puts swift, effortless gear changes at your fingertips. And because the Paddle Shifters are mounted on the steering wheel, you can change gear more efficiently when cornering.

Use less fuel with Auto Start-Stop

When you stop at traffic lights or your vehicle is idling in a queue, this technology can automatically switch off the engine. When you're ready to move, just depress the clutch and select first gear as usual, or release the brake on an automatic, and the system restarts. Auto Start-Stop is particularly effective in town and city streets, where it can cut fuel consumption by up to 10%.

An additive that removes pollution

A selective catalytic reduction system uses AdBlue®, a urea/water-based fluid to convert NOx emissions in the exhaust gas into nitrogen and water. A particulate filter then reduces more than 99% of emitted solid particulates from the vehicle’s exhaust. To operate correctly, the AdBlue® tank of your Ford EcoBlue diesel engine must be filled with AdBlue® fluid. System warnings illuminate when fluid level becomes too low.

Better aerodynamics for improved economy

When you’re driving slowly, the Active Grille Shutter system keeps the grille vent open to cool the engine. When you pick up speed it can automatically close, improving aerodynamics and helping to save fuel. Over time, this technology can make a big difference to fuel efficiency.

Comfort and Convenience

Impeccable craftsmanship and the highest quality materials convey a sense of prestige from the moment you enter the New Edge. FordPass Connect brings a level of connectivity that, until now, you could only experience at home. And B&O is a tailor-made, 1,000-Watt, 12-speaker audio system that delivers a concert-hall like experience.

Airbags to shield you from all angles

In addition to the driver and passenger front airbags, side airbags provide thorax protection and are designed to direct the occupant away from the impact area. They’re also able to raise the arm of the occupant providing better space between them and the intruding structure. Curtain airbags provide maximum coverage and headrests offer protection from whiplash. There are also front and rear seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters, seatbelt reminders for all seats, and a display that shows which occupied seats don’t have their seatbelts fastened.

Protecting and securing your Edge from thieves

A Thatcham Category 1 alarm is a sophisticated system that automatically arms itself when you double-lock the vehicle and will sound a powerful alarm if triggered by forced entry, the vehicle being lifted, or if the motion sensors pick up any movement inside. The technology is also designed to help prevent unwanted towing of the vehicle. It's possible to arm the system in different ways, which means you can choose to monitor the doors, bonnet and boot.

Stay in control whatever the conditions

Electronic Stability Control constantly monitors your vehicle’s progress. It senses when a vehicle is losing grip and automatically applies a braking pulse to individual wheels to help stabilise it.

Maximum grip with minimum effort

An advanced Traction Control System eliminates excessive wheelspin and gives you the best possible grip, performance and stability, just when you need it most. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the power delivered to the vehicle’s individual wheels ensuring maximum contact and grip when you’re accelerating.

Continuous protection against rolling over

Ford’s unique roll-rate sensor helps the Roll Stability Control system to keep the tyres grounded, specifically under conditions where there’s a high centre of gravity and when driving through off-camber turns.

Helping you brake at higher speeds

The Active Braking system is an innovative safety feature that works when you’re traveling at speeds of over 30mph. The technology scans the road ahead and if it detects a collision is likely, will warn you. If you don’t react, the system primes the brakes then starts braking to help slow you down.

Utility

Whether you’re escaping for a well-earned holiday, need some retail therapy, or planning a round of golf, the New Ford Edge has all the space you could ever need. Even your tallest passengers will have room to stretch their legs in the back seats. And the addition of a tow bar and roof rails increase the vehicle’s already impressive luggage capacity.
